(sweatdrop) I really am going to get through translating book 2 some time soon. I just sent Carole another chapter... and posted it in the Yahoo group's files section...
^^;;;;; and the translations at the Geocities site are pretty atrocious...
Hello Everyone:
For those of you drooling for more Count Cain (like I always am), I've uploaded scans of God Child II to my webspace. The stories are "Butterfly Bone", "Bloodberry Jam", and "Lion Emblem". Unfortunately these are not scanslations, they're in Chinese. There are sites, however, which give pretty much scene by scene text translations of what's going on. It's kind of a clunky and time-consuming way to read the manga, but worth the time and effort if you love Count Cain! The easiest way I've found is to print out the text then follow along with the manga on your monitor.
Please feel free to use these scans any way you like. Save them , print them, use them on your website, etc. And hey, if you can read Chinese and want to save them and scanslate them, all the better for all of us! I will be losing my webspace in March, though, so if you want to save anything, please do it as soon as you can. I also have more volumes of God Child, so please let me know if you'd like some more.
The original scans are at:
http://www.circanever.addr.com/cain
(Sorry for the simple "directory" set-up. My web-building skills are nil.)
The translations can be found at:
http://www.geocities.com/earlcain2001/comicindex.htm
There's also a translation of "Butterfly Bone" at the Earl Cain Yahoo Newsgroup and another one of "Lion Emblem" at http://home.aptoshs.net/~echan/MangaList.html
If you have any questions/problems, please feel free to E-mail me at . Cheers all!
- Margaret

Hi, newbie here!! I just got into Count Cain about a few weeks ago, so needless to say, when I came across DisraeliArmy's post about the GodChild 2 scans, it was already down..
And being the helpless fan girl that I am, I would really really like to get my hands on them.. and any other GodChild volumes if all possible. (please? pretty please? [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img] )
And since both Chinese and English are pretty much my natural language, though i'm not great at either . I thought maybe I could try and scanlate them, or at least translate them (seeing how Risu-chan is rather busy with all her other Yuki Kaori projects). But for scanlation, it might depend on the quality of the scans, and I've never done anything like this before, so i'll probably need help as well .

;_; *cry* Thanks to you all! *sniff cry* More Count Cain coming soon!!! *drowns in her sea of tears* @_____@
'Nother update -- Katze found a Chinese translator who has God Child books 1-5 already! So hopefully she and I can work out a tag team thing -- I can do quick sanity checks on ambiguously-phrased things and names and such (things go weird when you go from English to katakana (which is missing some English syllables) to Chinese which uses kanji to represent katakana sounds and could be read several different ways).
And hopefully by the time Pandora-san's gotten up to book 5, I'll have had a chance to get caught up on Ludwig and Blood Hound and be working on God Child books 6-8...
There's still no ideal solution for the "translating a translation" Operator-game chances for miscommunication between the Japanese edition and the Chinese edition, but I figure people would rather have occasionally incorrect information than keep waiting months and months for them... @_@ In March I could at least be translating things over lunch hours, but for the past four months I haven't even had time to stop working long enough to go get lunches anywhere. I've been living on the "keep a box of Slim-Fast shakes under the desk because then you don't have to find time to go down to the basement to get at the refrigerator or microwave" drink-a-shake-in-thirty-seconds-and-be-back-to-work style of lunches. So being able to buy some time before I have to have books 6-8 ready is a good thing...
So yeah, coming soon, there should be more Cain that people won't have to wait months for me to dig out enough free time to translate... ^^;;;
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The way I'm reading this is that you're saying you don't have the Cain books in any format...?Originally posted by Wynci:

In that case I think you aren't going to be able to help us out, because I work from the Japanese set and so does Carole, and if you can't read Japanese AND you don't already personally have a set you CAN read, then we're kind of stuck. ^^;;;
If you do get a set you can read someday, let us know and we might be able to work something out, but we don't currently have the ability to provide you with Chinese scans...
Also, it *does* take coordinating between the different people working on a project, because of the way the mysteries tie into each other and hints dropped in one book come back to bite you in another. ^^;; Crisis and I tripped over that already in the Red Ram books!
I'd really feel more comfortable about turning over part of the translating to someone who spoke Japanese rather than Chinese for two reasons. One is that we'd all be working from the same material so we could have a clear, easy division of who does what when. The other is that I already know of cases where the Chinese edition's translators messed things up, from working with Crisis on the Red Ram books.
Crisis did the first book and I did the second, and the Chinese edition translated a phrase exactly the opposite of the way it needed to be translated for the mystery's most fundamental clue to work out. The reason for that is that the Japanese phrase was ambiguous and apparently the Chinese translator picked the wrong nuance to put into Chinese. Of course, there was no way for the Chinese translator to have known that at the time, because the second book wasn't OUT at the time; and there was no way for Crisis to have known she was reading an incorrect Chinese translation because she doesn't read Japanese. But when you're translating a translation, things like that can and do come into play and make things tangle up. (In case you're curious, it was about Gilford's memory -- IIRC the Japanese could have been interpreted as "remembers nothing but these letters" or "can't remember only these letters" and the Chinese version picked the first, but it actually HAD to be the second, because one of the letters was U which he didn't put in when spelling murder backwards and therefore got to red ram instead of red rum... it was convoluted, it's Yuki Kaori, what can I say? ^^;
So we worked it out and she retrofitted a page into the earlier scanslation to make the mystery work -- but if you don't have someone reading the original-language dialogue somewhere in the process, things like that aren't going to get caught and it can make the whole story not make sense.
If it's not a mystery series, mistakes due to dual-translation aren't as important, but in series like these, getting a nuance wrong can really screw up the entire plotline... ^^;;
FYI, I'd love to be able to split up pieces of God Child with a Japanese translator if there was one; I've just gotten back into town from Michigan, I haven't been in my apartment for more than one weekend since the beginning of May, at the moment it looks like I won't be able to be in town next weekend or the weekend after that (friends need me and specifically my car to go to Lafayette followed by my parents wanting me to go to Danville for my birthday) and I am SO sick of road trips I could scream, and all of this is on top of more-than-full-time documentation work.
But maybe in late July/early August I can try to get another chapter done or something...

Sorry i'm no help, but i just thought i'll contribute for once instead of just lech all the time. I have tried to get the GodChild scans but downloading from chinese servers is nearly impossible. As for the whole 'translating from a translation' thing, I am aware that a direct Japanese to english translation is obviously better than japanese to chinese then to english, but as Risu-chan said, it wouldn't have taken as long to update.
Anyway, whats important is that there's more God Child comming. (horray!)
PS. I actually have learnt japanese, for five years too. But alas i am no good at learning languages, i guess i really should have tied harder.

Hm has anyone contacted Erin from http://www.aptoshs.net/~echan/index.html ?
I think her translations are from the original japanese versions. Just an idea.
However it's a good news there will be more Cain soon.
*waves to Risu*
'Allo.. I'm not really fluent in Japanese but I'm half-assed enough at it that I can usually manage translations ^__^;;. I've also got the entire series of God Child which I would be willing to scan in for you guys. Anyway, if you would like me to help out in anyway, please let me know.
